Message from CEO/History

A Bread Affair is a family-owned business that has been specialising in baking handmade artisan breads since 2005. Our bakery is situated in Langley, B.C. where the city meets the country. This location allows A Bread Affair to remain a part of the fabric of our rich agricultural community; able to know the producers and growers on a first name basis yet close to Vancouver and able to service the demands of artisan bread lovers in the lower mainland. Whether you know us from the bakery, your local farmer's market or any of the fine restaurants or retailers that use or sell our products, rest assured that you are enjoying a world-class product, handcrafted by skilled artisan bakers using only time-honoured methods, natural ingredients, and traditional stone hearth ovens.
Food reviewers and food lovers have dubbed us "B.C.'s best bread" -- a compliment we take seriously. It starts with the understanding that bread is a part of the tradition of our country. Whether that is the country white loaf which came to us from a mother (and grandmother) who baked it on the prairies, our sourdoughs, reminiscent of the miners' staple during the Barkerville gold rush, or the uniquely B.C. cranberry semolina bread using coarsely ground, high protein flour, and local cranberries, every A Bread Affair loaf uses only natural ingredients, baked from scratch, using a natural leavening process.
I encourage the Bread Affair team to perfect their skills. Working under the direction of Tanya Belanger, every baker is committed to improving their craft. Each team member is developed a programme to help them to become a better baker. Our commitment to source only organic or natural products with a strong preference to support local agriculture, provides clear direction to our purchasers and to potential suppliers as to the range of products that would be of interest to us. The A Bread Affair bread you buy is the result of our commitment to making only phenomenal bread. Great ingredients, the gentle shaping of each loaf, long periods for slow rising, and a stone-deck oven, all work to create exceptionally flavourful breads.
In sales or in our retail store, like every artisan in the production area of the bakery, every person shares the passion for great food. In that passion, the care and attention to detail needed to create great bread and to create a fantastic shopping experience is found.
I share that passion for great bread, for extraordinary ingredients and a unique shopping experience. Your feedback to let us know how close we come to achieve that goal is important. Let me know how we are doing!
